Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothian, is congratulating a Heriot-Watt University Academic who has won a prestigious European Award. Miles has tabled a Parliamentary motion highlighting the achievement of Professor Sebastian Geiger of Heriot-Watt University who has been named winner of the 2017 Alfred Wegener Award by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE).
Speaking today Miles said:
“I am delighted that Professor Geiger’s outstanding contribution to petroleum and reservoir engineering has been recognised through this prestigious European award.
“Professor Geiger’s award is a further boost for the deservedly high reputation for Heriot-Watt’s Institute of Petroleum Engineering.”

That the Parliament congratulates Professor Sebastian Geiger of Heriot-Watt University on being named winner of the 2017 Alfred Wegener Award by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers; notes that Professor Geiger, who is Director of the Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE) and CMG Chair at Heriot-Watt, received the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution in his field and important work in carbonate reservoir modelling and simulation across industry and academia; considers that his award is a further welcome boost for Heriot-Watt’s IPE, which enjoys a high international reputation, and wishes him and all of his team continued success in the future.
