4,803 households across Pentland Hills Ward are facing hefty Council Tax increases thanks to a decision by the SNP government to penalise some local residents.
Changes to homes in Council Tax bands E to H will leave many residents facing increases of up to £526.05 a year.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for Pentland Hills Ward, Graeme Bruce, has condemned the move, saying: “These council tax increases leave thousands of local people here in Pentland Hills Ward facing tax hikes of anywhere between £107.16 and £526.05 a year.”
“And if that wasn’t bad enough, the same SNP government that has implemented this rise will be cutting the grant to fund services in Edinburgh by £28.4 million over the next year."
“It all adds up to a double blow from the SNP to the people of Balerno and Currie – higher council tax bills and cuts to the budget resulting in poorer local services for residents at greater cost.” “It’s not fair and if I am elected as your councillor in May, I am committed to fighting for a better deal for Pentland Hills Ward.”
