BOROUGHMUIR HIGH SCHOOL
The new Boroughmuir High School – which was slated to open at the start of this year – will now not be opened for use by staff and pupils until August. The revised opening date for the new 1165 capacity school next to the Union Canal at Fountainbridge means forthcoming exams will take place at the school’s current site at Viewforth, minimising disruption during this important period.
Commenting, Chris Land said: “A number of parents have expressed concerns about potential roll number capacity at the new Boroughmuir and I will work with the school community to ensure that local children are properly accommodated.”
RESIDENTS VOICE CONCERN AT COUNCIL APPROACH TO 20MPH
The Scottish Conservatives have led the political opposition to Edinburgh Council’s misguided decision to apply a 20mph speed limit to 80 percent of city roads.
Residents across Morningside Ward have voiced their concerns to Chris over the Council’s approach to speed limits on a nightly basis. Chris Land commented: “When applied appropriately – for example outside schools or in heavily residential areas, 20mph can be an important road safety measure. however, a near blanket approach to 20mph – like in Edinburgh – typically slow cars by less than 1mph and can actually contribute to greater pollution and congestion.”
“The Council could have better spent these funds on more effective road safety measures. Edinburgh Conservatives would halt implementation of the Council’s 20mph scheme and subject it to a comprehensive review.”
PARKING - POLWARTH TERRACE
Following representations from Conservative Councillors, the Council’s Transport Committee has agreed to commence the legal process to introduce, on an experimental basis, a number of shared-use parking places on Polwarth Terrace.
Residents had previously contacted Cllr Mark McInnes asking that the Council recognise the need for parking spaces near their homes. The proposed experimental parking provision, which will be trialled over 18 months, aims to recognise resident’s concerns, while recognising that Polwarth Terrace is an important arterial route.
