Since it was first switched on in August 2013 the bus gate camera in Kirklands Park Street has generated over £200,000 in fines for the City of Edinburgh Council.
The bus gate can result in a detour of up to 1.3 miles for residents in the north of Kirkliston as well as adding unnecessarily to the build up of traffic at the already congested crossroads in the town.
Commenting, Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for Almond Ward said:
“If elected as your councillor I will fight for a proportion of the income from the bus gate camera to be invested in the installation and operation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition at the bus gate. This will allow residents of North Kirkliston to exit the area in their actual direction of travel, ease congestion at the crossroads and continue to prevent the use of Kirklands Park Street as a rat run for commuters passing through the town.”
