Concerns from local residents have been raised about the possible reduction in hours. The library is popular and well used by the residents and children of Ratho. It is the hub of the community and restricted library access does not encourage children to read. Graeme will continue to monitor the situation with the library and should there be any further attempts to make cut backs, Graeme will do his utmost to maintain the current opening hours.
Ratho Surfing Lake
Wavegarden Scotland are proposing to create a huge lake within Craigpark quarry with a machine to recreate waves for any level of surfer. The developers expect to create more than 80 jobs which will help the local area and beyond. Graeme Bruce said: “This is great news for young and old to lead an active lifestyle alongside Europe’s largest indoor climbing arena.”
Doctors Surgery
The foundations are being laid and with time the new doctor’s surgery will be up and running with increased capacity. Graeme is aware that the current situation with a locum doctor does not meet the village’s requirements and he hopes that the issue will soon be dealt with the provision of a permanent medical presence in Ratho.
Changes to Brown Bin Collection
Residents have raised inconsistent bin collection with Graeme for all types of bins, not just brown ones. However, things are about to get harder for our residents from March onwards as the brown bin service will now be collected once every three weeks instead of every two weeks. Graeme said: “This is extremely inconvenient to the people of the ward, especially those in more rural areas and simply not acceptable. The Labour/SNP led council are quite happy to increase our Council tax and give us less services in return.”
Dalmahoy Junction
A traffic light solution has been mooted for the junction where the road from Ratho meets the A71 at Dalmahoy. This will allow traffic from Ratho to safely enter the A71 east or westbound and likewise from the east turning right towards Ratho itself. Also a 40mph zone has been proposed from the Hatton area to slow down traffic towards the Dalmahoy junction, again to make the road safer. Graeme will keep you posted on any further developments on this project.
