Cllr Iain Whyte is delighted to report that the Council is finally going to act to improve walking and cycle access to the Royal Botanic Gardens from Inverleith Park.
Iain has been pressing for improvements here for several years having had requests from constituents and having had discussions with the Gardens’ Management Team.
Iain said:
“I know that residents who walk through Inverleith Park to get to the Botanics, and those who travel from further away and cross the road after parking, find this section of Arboretum Place difficult to cross. It is also difficult for local cyclists who leave a signed cycle route which ends at the Park gate. People want to retain the semi circled parking areas for disabled parking and the ice cream van but also want a safe route across the road.”
“The Council will be undertaking a consultation on its early designs for the scheme in March at a staffed public exhibition in the Royal Botanic Gardens. A second consultation on the advance design may follow later once early public comments have been considered. If you have a view on how this area can be made safer please look out for the exhibition and let me know your views.”
