The Post Office Ltd have announced they are to consult on the franchising of the local Post Office on Morningside Road.
In effect, this means the Post Office Ltd are seeking a new operator to run the Post Office and could lead to a change from its current location at 265 Morningside Road. The changes could also lead to a significant change in service levels.
Councillor Nick Cook and his Lothian parliamentary colleague, Miles Briggs MSP, have voiced serious concern at the announcement.
Nick and Miles have held a meeting with the Post Office Ltd to seek specific guarantees that every effort will be made to find a suitable
new operator and ensure no reduction in service levels. In addition to offering such assurances, Post Office Ltd representatives have stated that Morningside Post Office is not part of a closure plan.
Commenting, Councillor Nick Cook, Scottish Conservative candidate for Morningside Ward, remarked that:
“Morningside Post Office is a busy and - I believe - vital part of our local community. It must remain so.”
“Assurances given thus far by the Post Office Ltd are, of course, welcome. However I will continue to take active involvement in this matter - alongside parliamentary colleagues - to this local asset on which many residents rely.”
