A recent survey from an insurance comparison site found EH15 the third highest postcode for burglaries in Edinburgh, which was the most affected city in Scotland.
Whether it’s the stealing of items from sheds and garages or more serious home break-ins many residents are concerned; especially the elderly and the many who live in bungalows with ground floor bedrooms and multiple entry and exit points which can make them a target.
Commenting on this growing concern, Callum Laidlaw said:
"The rise in house-breakings in a matter of serious concern and if elected I will work with the police to help address the problem. The council has a role to play too though, whether in helping residents to set up neighbourhood watches - something I’m a member of - to ensuring streets are well lit and public spaces are fenced and maintained to prevent them offering criminals easy access and escape.”
Callum is not the only one to call for action. Both Miles Briggs MSP and John McLellan have raised this pressing issue in recent weeks.
