Cllr Callum Laidlaw is the Conservative’s education spokesperson and takes an active role in addressing the challenges pupils, parents and school staff face across the city.
Over the course of the pandemic, he has raised a number of matters on behalf of parents including addressing the disparity in online teaching between schools, supporting a full return to the classroom and successfully fighting for outdoor sports to be restarted in the spring, following relaxation of government guidance.
This summer he will be pressing officers for a commitment to a full sports and extra-curricular offer in our schools when they return, if Covid restrictions are lifted nationwide as planned.
Callum said, “Sports and extra-curricular activities, as well as youth work, are vital for our children and young people’s mental health. I understand the need to follow Government guidance closely but we cannot afford for our state schools to lag behind the independent sector due to a lack of preparedness for loosening of restrictions.”
